ALTA OBSERVATORY BACK COUNTRY ADVENTURES

ALTA LAKES/CROSS-COUNTRY SKI ADVENTURES Retreat into the San Juan Mountains of Colorado to the Alta Lakes Observatory, adjacent to the Telluride Ski Area, offers a unique experience for skiing and showshoeing enthusiasts interested in getting away from it all. Our guests expand their knowledge and confidence in cross country and backcountry skiing and snowshoeing beneath the 13,000 foot peaks of Silver Mountain and Palymyra Peak. The Observatory is accessible in winter only by skis, snowshoes, snowmobile, snowcat or helicopter. The surrounding lakes, rolling meadows, rugged mountainsides, and groomed trails (which access the Telluride Ski Area), provide endless adventuring in a winter wonderland. In the summer, bring your mountain bikes for a challenging day up the mountain or around the many trails through the adjoining national forest. This is the perfect place to start or end your multi-day biking trip.
