In the winter, located At timberline, Alta Lakes Observatory is nestled at an altitude of
11,300' beneath the 13,800' Silver Mountain and Palmyra Peaks. Surrounded by National
Forest on a remote site next to one of the three pristine Alta Lakes. The Observatory is
adjacent to the Telluride Ski Area and is accessible by Snowmobile, Cross-Country Skiis,
Snowshoe, Telluride Ski Area Back-country gate ONLY/
